Beer Pong Celebrities: Well-Known Faces Rack Up And Chug Down

By Derek Reed

Beer pong celebrities fall into two categories: real and fictional. The ones that are classified as 'real' can actually be proven to have played the game. The 'fictional' category are those who feature most in dream team scenarios, comedy sketches and satirical pieces.

About the Game: Also called beirut, this game has many variants and differing house rules. The main goal is to clear all the opposing team's glasses by getting them to drink up and remove glasses from the table. You get them to drink by tossing or paddling a ping-pong ball into a glass, which are arranged on the opposite side of an eight foot long table.

'Real' beer pong celebrities: Late Night With Jimmy Fallon features frequent beirut games where female celebs go head to head against Jimmy. There is no guarantee that Jimmy will win. Because of the time constraints of the show, it only takes two sunk balls to win and they do not use paddles.

Quite a few famous ladies have taken up the challenge, and the list includes Betty White (Hot In Cleveland, Golden Girls), Sigourney Weaver (Avatar, Alien), Charlize Theron (The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers, Monster), Helen Mirren (Calendar Girls, The Queen), Jessica Alba (Sin City, Dark Angel), Jennifer Garner (Elektra, Alias), Kate Hudson (You, Me And Dupree, Almost Famous), Lucy Liu (Ally McBeal, Chalie's Angels), and tennis players Anna Kournikova and Serena Williams, among others.

The LA Comedy Shorts Festival and the Digital College Network hosted a celebrity Beirut party at Lucky Strike Lanes in downtown LA in April last year. Players did not have to drink alcohol if they chose not to and celebs and regular players were matched up randomly. The 'pong mistress' was actress Aisha Tyler (24, CSI), and players included Brad Sherwood (Who's Line Is It Anyway), Gary Anthony Williams (Boston Legal, Boondocks) and others.

There are a number of web sites that host galleries of beer pong celebrities. Many well known faces can be seen knocking back penalty brews and sinking ping pong balls. Howard Stern, famous shock-jock, has occasional games on his Internet-tv show. True to form, Stern's tournaments feature augmented 'co-eds' in clinging or barely there outfits.

'Fictional' beer pong celebrities: Beirut is a great scenario for lampooning those naughty tabloid-making celeb boozers, and favorite satire targets include Tara Reid (Scrubs, American Pie), David Hasselhoff (America's Git Talent, Night Rider), Charlie Sheen (Two And A Half Men, Hot Shots), Kiefer Sutherland (24, The Three Musketeers), Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls, Herbie Fully Loaded), Russell Crowe (Gladiator, Beautiful Mind), Danny DeVito (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Twins), George W Bush and even Homer Simpson. These famous party people are featured inn tons of fantasy leagues, campus rags, blogs and comedy sketch shows.

There are, of course, people who should be actual beer pong celebrities for their skill at the actual game. The WSOBP (World Series Of Beer Pong) is the biggest of the beirut tournaments. People wanting to compete buy in or earn their way in by winning official satellite games. Contestants from 25 American States and 5 Canadian Provinces entered the last WSOBP, which had a prize of fifty thousand dollars.
