Becoming A Professional Wedding Photographer

By Kate Perez

Becoming a wedding photographer is one of the most lucrative and enjoyable professions anyone could have. As a wedding photographer one must have a strong desire to succeed and aim for perfection to stand out in the highly competitive market. The field of wedding photography necessitates not only integrity and professionalism but qualities of being organized and punctual as well.

A wedding experience cannot be repeated if there are blunders made, and as a wedding photographer, you have to perfectly capture the essential details of the day. Thankfully, there are some tricks you can learn and apply to ensure a job well done. One is to prepare a shot list before the wedding day.

Once your list is ready, you can share it with your client couple to prepare them for the time you'll take their photos. This way, the shots would not appear off-guard, but rather dramatic and spontaneous. Your checklist will also help you get the guests together for group pictures after the ceremony. Moreover, you have to to include in the checklist where and when you would position yourself particularly if the wedding has special religious traditions.

It is also wise on your part to learn about the location or locations of the wedding days prior to the actual ceremony. Explore the locations to determine the possible angles that you can shoot from during the wedding for good lighting and backdrop. This will help you plan ahead for the shots you want to take.

Having a back up plan is vital as well since there are problems that might arise during the wedding. Unexpected events like bad weather and changes in original plan can ruin the wedding shoot if you are not prepared. Make sure that your batteries are fully charged and that you have some extra, as well as sufficient memory card, spare lens and other needed gear.

Being a wedding photographer requires that you are aware of the itinerary. That way you'd know where exactly you would be at a particular time. Bridal couples and guests also expect wedding photographers to show respect to the entire ceremony and to work as quietly as possible.
