Big Sound - Sennheiser Rs120 Wireless Headphones Review

By Tyler Johnson

I am very pleased in all respects. The sound quality is excellent -- on par with expensive, cable-connected phones.

They play fine all throughout the day so they are full charged each morning. When you take the headphones off, you must press the ON button on the base unit, and then press the power button on the headphones before they will work. This product is great; I connected it to my computer, went to my backyard and listened to my music while working in the garden. The set-up is very easy and the sound quality is amazing. So imagine my surprise when they arrived working as advertised and even very comfortably fitting my head. All the parts that touch your head are soft and velvety. The RS180 are a blessing as far as wireless headphones go. If you're an audiophile who demands the absolute best and wants to hear every note of Tchaikovsky, it won't be on these. The range on these is about twice what I got with the 140s (around 40 feet). These are RF, so walls and enclosed cabinets pose no problem.

I purchased these wireless headphones for quiet listening late at night so I would not disturb other people. I have used the wired Sennheiser HD 414 headphones for the last 20+ years and have had zero problems with them. They have very reasonable range and auto-volume adjusts. NO extraneous noise. Everything considered I would recommend this headset highly to anyone! I bought this wireless headphone system to use while watching TV late at night, so I won't wake my spouse who sleeps upstairs above the TV room. The sound quality is nice, they handle bass without breaking a sweat, and lighter notes as well. There's silence where silence is to be expected; if there's hissing present in what you're listening to, you'll hear that as well. I'm impressed by the clarity and 'crispness' of the sound and good reproduction of lower frequencies. Comfortable to wear even for an extended time - easy to set up and use Cons: - power button on base station difficult to operate with one hand. If your source is turned up enough, you can fine-tune the volume on the back of the headphones with your right hand. Navigate around it with your right thumb as soon as you begin to use them and you'll be quickly acquainted.

The one characteristic that was accurate in my experience when using them was regarding the control bottoms in the headset. They are difficult to feel and distinguish; a really small inconvenience considering the remarkable performance of the product.

I red some comments before I bought them that they are difficult to pair - I didn't find that at all. In fact, as soon as powered up the transmitter and put the batteries in, they came right on!

I get around this by putting half a headband from a HD 280 in the groove between the cushions so that the pressure is spread between the top of my head and the sides. This works well, but why does the customer have to come up with a work around for such a problem?
